New Smart City, Neom
The proposed confidential Smart City and multi-modal transportation hub in KSA is set to transform into a vibrant, mixed-use urban community encompassing residential, commercial, hospitality, and social infrastructure assets. Designed as a pioneering car-free zone, the city will utilise advanced transportation modes, including high-speed rail, trams, autonomous neighbourhood electric vehicles, and micromobility options like bicycles and scooters.
The SDS team has previously crafted a smart transport strategy to support 70,000 residents, aligning with the car-free development ethos promoting micromobility, autonomous vehicles, and mass transit systems. Inspired by the '15-minute city' model, this strategy seeks to foster a dynamic and vibrant residential environment.
The current project aims to advance modern and smart travel principles within Saudi Arabia, embracing a European-inspired approach to vehicular and driver behaviour in a regulated setting. A critical focus of this endeavour is devising a logistics strategy that minimises truck movements at street level, thereby enhancing the urban experience and reducing congestion.
